Preparation

In a little over a month I will leave for Guatemala to volunteer at the God's Child Project in Antigua  (http://www.godschild.org/).  I am feeling a little nervous and uncertain but also very excited as I know it will be an amazing adventure.

I have poured over the God's Child site, emailed and called the coordinator in North Dakota, taken a Spanish course and researched the area, but still I do not feel ready.   This has been a plan since 2006 when I met a woman on a CARF survey who volunteers in Antigua with her church nearly every year.   I had considered joining their group but the time has never been right, so in the fall I decided to just book the flight and take it from there.  This sense of it being meant to be is helping to quell the slight panic that comes over me at times.

"La Antigua Guatemala (commonly referred to as just Antigua or La Antigua) is a city in the central highlands of Guatemala famous for its well-preserved Spanish Mudéjar-influenced[1] Baroque architecture as well as a number of spectacular ruins of colonial churches. It has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site."

  1. Looking forward to reading your impressions of Antigua, Margot. Hope you have sunny skies and wonderful days there. I can relate to your pre-departure uncertainties, but hope everything goes beautifully for you now that you're there.
